Surgeon turns Photographer
Prior to becoming a professional photographer, I was a vascular surgeon. It was an amazing experience to be able to save someone’s life with my own two hands! However, being surgeon extracted a toll on me, and did not provide me with the same outlet for creativity that photography did.
This image will always have special significance for me because it is the first image I ever sold. My family and friends had been encouraging me for a long time, but it’s something entirely different when someone actually wants to spend their hard-earned money on a work of art I created.
I have left a legacy as a surgeon by improving many people’s health and lives. Now, I am trying to save my own life and leave a different sort of legacy, one that has the potential to outlive myself.
Despite the fact that there are a gazillion pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge out there, I never get tired of shooting this structure. This shot was taken from One Mile Beach near Land’s End. Climb down to the beach, then turn left and negotiate some rocks for about 30 yards. Look to your right, and you will see this view. I used HDR processing to give a more dramatic look.
