I’ve been exploring more black & white photography lately. I used to think black & white digital photography was as simple as flipping a switch. It’s much more subtle and complex. Just as you can vary the color tones in a color photography, those same adjustments will affect the appearance of a black & white photograph. It’s not as black & white as I thought it was!
Here’s a photo from Yosemite last year which I worked on for a juried gallery exhibition at the 1650 gallery. Many landscapes are better suited for black & white, because the texture and details may be more interesting than the colors. Ansel Adams was on to something!
